Since its establishment in 1988, KBSI has led the development of national research infrastructure and analytical science for 38 years.

Through this work, we have built a strong foundation for science and technology in Korea. We have built research infrastructure across Korea and made advanced research facilities and equipment available to universities, government-funded research institutes, and industry. Through advanced analytical services and joint research, we have helped solve a wide range of scientific and technological problems. With the knowledge, experience, and capabilities we have built over the years, KBSI is now at a turning point.

Construction of the Korea Light Source (KLS) began in July. KLS will be a key research facility supporting Korea’s advanced science and national strategic technologies. It will also be an important step toward KBSI becoming a national hub for large-scale research infrastructure. With KLS at the center, we will bring together advanced research equipment, analytical science, AI and research data, autonomous laboratories, skilled professionals, and industry. We will build on these connections to become a platform that links Korea’s large-scale research infrastructure and leads its further development.

We will further strengthen our expertise in analytical science and develop new analytical technologies and methods. We will also lead the development of new ways to conduct research through autonomous laboratories that combine AI, robotics, and advanced research equipment. We will work to ensure that our research infrastructure and expertise help universities, government-funded research institutes, and industry take on new challenges and achieve results. We will also work to provide scientific and technological solutions that meet our nation’s needs.

With KLS at the center of our efforts, we will explore new possibilities in analytical science, use AI and data to transform how research is done, and shape the future of Korea’s research infrastructure. We will do our best to earn the trust of the public, researchers, and industry.
