Superconducting High Magnetic Field Research Group

Superconducting High Magnetic Field Research Group

Carries out research on the development of core technologies for national ultra-high magnetic field, high-uniformity, high-temperature superconducting solenoid-type magnets, and conducts prototype fabrication and verification studies for 20T-class magnets using these core technologies.

  • Develops magnet source technologies capable of generating ultra-high magnetic fields using high-temperature superconducting wires, enabling applications in basic science such as materials research, NMR, and preclinical MRI.
  • Develops performance evaluation techniques and auxiliary linkage technologies to enhance ultra-high magnetic field magnets, with the goal of advancing them into commercialized user-support facilities.

Research Infrastructure

Possesses technologies and infrastructure for the design, fabrication, and operational evaluation of ultra-high magnetic field superconducting magnets

  • Possesses technologies for electromagnetic and stress-resistant design of superconducting magnets, fabrication methods including long conductor winding and delamination-resistant reinforcement, cryogen-free conduction cooling, magnet operation and field homogeneity evaluation, as well as homogeneity correction techniques
  • Achieved recognition in 2018 by the IEEE as one of the world’s top four achievements in high-temperature superconducting magnet development, and possesses winding devices, conductor joining equipment, conductor magnetic critical property evaluation devices, unit coil and small magnet critical performance evaluation equipment
